The speakers will share practical examples and insight into this interesting and dynamic field. Satellite-based remote sensing is used for monitoring changes on Earth and making cartographic models and maps, which finds many applications in agriculture, forestry, industry and other sectors. The application of satellite altimetry for monitoring the sea surface will be presented. Emphasis will be on those systems that are open to all users free of charge such as the Copernicus system with its services. In the second part of the webinar, satellite systems for Earth observation will be described. Besides crisis management, we will speak about the role of GNSS in the implementation of smart cities and IoT (Internet of Things) technology. A detailed example will be given for the application of the GNSS system in crisis management, more specifically earthquakes, which hit Croatia on several occasions in the past year. The first part of this webinar will describe the available GNSS systems with an emphasis on the European Galileo system as well as its new services that find purpose in everyday activities. The webinar is thematically divided into two parts: GNSS (Global navigation satellite systems) and their applications, and satellite system for Earth observation. In this webinar, listeners will be introduced to the application of satellite systems in everyday activities and research. Our speakers, experienced professionals based in Croatia, will present the diverse applications of satellite positioning systems and remote sensing in many areas and activities.
